At the SEECP Ministerial and Expert meeting 5./6. April 2004 in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, the ministers decided to transfer MARRI to regional ownership and to establish a professional and political Regional Forum for the five SAp countries
 
...and to establish an administrative/supportive structure for the Forum, the MARRI Regional Center in Skopje

Welcome the MARRI Regional Forum
The Regional Forum is composed of Ministers and Senior Officials responsible for Migration, Asylum, Border Management, Visa and Refugee Return or Settlement.

It will aim at exchanging information, experiences, lessons learned, best practices as well as to discuss and resolve issues of common interest and concerns to develop a common vision for the region.

Invitation to the second meeting of the «Friends of the Regional Forum»
Following the establishment of the MARRI Regional Forum and the consequent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in Tirana on 2nd of July, the establishment of the MARRI Regional Center in Skopje is now well underway and shall be officially opened on 18th of November.
 
First meeting of the 'Friends of the Regional Forum', the former MARRI Steering Committee, on 27 May 2004.


Launched MARRI-Initatives
 
For the management of population movements, safe cross border data exchange is a core issue. Following a request from the states concerned, MARRI, established the Regional Information Exchange (MARRI-RIE) Initiative
 
The Access to Rights (ATR) program aims at achieving unimpeded and non-discriminatory access to all those still displaced citizens of the region (5 SAp countries) to their basic human, economic and social rights
